Summary:To provide a media detection device, which is configured so as to reduce media that are consumed together with performing calibration of the device.SOLUTION: An image formation device comprises: a media conveyance path; a conveyance processing part Pr2 that conveys media; an optical media detection device that detects an image-writing piece; a printing processing part Pr1 that forms an image on the image writing piece; and a calibration processing part Pr5 that calculates an index representing a relation in optical characteristics between media detection devices in a condition where there are no media, determines first currents for adjusting light emission in a condition where there is the image writing piece in the media detection device at an upstream side, and calculates second currents for adjusting light emission of the media detection device at a downstream side on the basis of the index and the first currents for adjusting light emission.
