To provide a washing machine which can perform dirt detection while suppressing increase in cost.SOLUTION: A washing machine includes a housing, an outer tub, a washing and dewatering tub, a driving device, water supply means, and electric conductivity detection means. A detergent and water are supplied along the outer tub, and after the water dissolves the detergent and reaches a water level, the supply of water is stopped. Before the dirt of laundry starts to dissolve, electric conductivity of water containing the detergent detected by the electric conductivity detection means is detected, and on the basis of the detected electric conductivity, the characteristic of the electric conductivity detection means is switched, and on the basis of the electric conductivity detected by the electric conductivity detection means of the switched characteristic and the electric conductivity detected before the dirt started to dissolve, the dirt amount is determined.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8 【課題】コストアップを抑制しつつ、汚れ検出を行える洗濯機を提供する。【解決手段】筺体と、外槽と、洗濯兼脱水槽と、駆動装置と、給水手段と、電導度検出手段と、を備えた洗濯機であって、外槽内に沿って洗剤と水を供給し、水が洗剤を溶かし水位に到達した後、水の供給を停止し、洗濯物の汚れが溶け出す前に、電導度検出手段で検出した洗剤を含む水の電気電導度を検出し、検出された電気電導度に基づいて、電導度検出手段の特性を切り替え、切り替えた特性の電導度検出手段で検出した電導度と、汚れが溶け出す前に検出した電導度と、に基づいて、汚れ量を判定する。【選択図】図８
