Summary:To provide an absorber including a water-absorbent resin that has excellent water absorbability and, when being used for an absorber, can improve absorption performance under a load, and absorbent article using the absorber.SOLUTION: An absorber includes a water-absorbent resin that is a polymer cross-linked product of a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer, an internal cross-linking agent and a post-cross-linking agent, and hydrophilic fibers, where the water-absorbent resin satisfies the following characteristics: (A) the water absorption capacity of physiological saline under a load of 4.14 kPa is 16 mL/g or more; (B) the mass ratio of 150-850 μm particles to the entire water-absorbent resin is 85 mass% or more, and the mass ratio of 300-400 μm particles thereto is 20 mass% or more; (C) tanδ measured by classifying the 300-400 μm particles of the water-absorbent resin is 2.00×10-2 or less; and (D) an absorber having an absorption capacity elasticity index expressed by the following formula (I) is 68000 or more.
