Summary:To improve the energy efficiency of a vehicle while suppressing a sense of terror imposed on the occupants of the vehicle and preceding vehicle in execution of an automatic operation.SOLUTION: An ECU executes: determining whether there is an occupant in an own vehicle (S10); determining whether there is an occupant in a preceding vehicle (S20) in the case of determining that there is no occupant in the own vehicle (No for S10); setting an inter-vehicular distance at a second distance (S40) in the case of determining that there is no occupant in both of the own vehicle and preceding vehicle (No for S20), where the second distance is shorter than a first distance that is set in a case where there is an occupant at least one of the own vehicle and preceding vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】自動運転の実行時において、車両の搭乗者および前方車両の搭乗者に恐怖感を与えることを抑制しつつ、車両のエネルギー効率を向上させることである。【解決手段】ECUは、自車に搭乗者がいるか否かを判定する(S10)。自車に搭乗者がいないと判定した場合(S10においてNO)、ECUは、前方車両に搭乗者がいるか否かを判定する(S20)。自車および前方車両の両方に搭乗者がいない場合には(S20においてNO)、ECUは、第2距離を車間距離に設定する(S40)。第2距離は、自車および前方車両の少なくとも一方に搭乗者がいる場合に設定される第1距離よりも短い距離である。【選択図】図4
