Summary:To provide a thermal recording medium which has excellent image precision, especially bar-code readability, under a low-temperature environment.SOLUTION: Provided is a thermal recording medium comprising: on a substrate, a thermal recording layer containing a colorless or pale-colored electron-donating leuco dye and an electron-accepting color developer; and, on the thermal recording layer, a protective layer comprising a binder and pigment, where the protective layer comprises, as the pigment: amorphous silica having a 50%-volume average particle diameter (D50) measured by a laser diffraction/scattering method of 4 to 10 μm and calcium carbonate having a 50%-volume average particle diameter (D50) measured by a laser diffraction/scattering method of 3 μm or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】低温環境下における画像精細性、特にバーコード読み取り適性に優れた感熱記録体の提供。【解決手段】支持体上に、無色ないし淡色の電子供与性ロイコ染料及び電子受容性顕色剤を含有する感熱記録層並びに該感熱記録層上にバインダー及び顔料から成る保護層を有する感熱記録体において、該保護層が顔料として、レーザー回折/散乱法で測定した体積50%平均粒子径(D50)が4〜10μmの非晶質シリカ、及びレーザー回折/散乱法で測定した体積50%平均粒子径(D50)が3μm以上の炭酸カルシウムを含有する感熱記録体である。【選択図】なし
