Summary:To provide a controller for a gas sensor that achieves compatibility between the accuracy of deterioration diagnosis of a gas sensor and execution frequency of diagnosis.SOLUTION: A controller 5 diagnoses deterioration of a gas sensor 4 having a pump cell 13 and a sensor cell 14. The controller 5 comprises: a control unit 272; a determination value acquisition unit 273; a diagnosis unit 274; and a correction unit 275. The control unit 272 temporarily reduces oxygen removal ability in the pump cell 13. The determination value acquisition unit 273 acquires an output ratio of the sensor cell 14 on the basis of an output value of the sensor cell 14 in a state of temporarily reducing the oxygen removal ability in the pump cell 13. The diagnosis unit 274 performs a deterioration diagnosis of the gas sensor 4 by comparison between the output ratio and a determination threshold.
