Summary: | To provide a diesel engine capable of downsizing an engine.SOLUTION: A diesel engine includes: a combustion chamber 2 in a cylinder 1, a fuel injection chamber 4 in a cylinder head 3, a communication port 9 that communicates the combustion chamber 2 and the fuel injection chamber 4, a fuel injector 6 facing the fuel injection chamber 4, and an electronic control device 8 that controls an injection timing and an injection amount of a fuel 5 injected from the fuel injector 6. A value of surface roughness on an inner surface of the fuel injection chamber 4 is made to be 12.5 a to 25 a in arithmetic average roughness Ra. A value of surface roughness on an inner peripheral surface of the communication port 9 is preferably made to be smaller than that on the inner surface of the fuel injection chamber 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
