Summary:To provide a washing machine capable of reducing washing unevenness and cloth damage, and capable of achieving improvement in washing performance.SOLUTION: A pulsator 26 includes: a base part 100; a movable blade part 200 which protrudes from an arrangement surface 100a of the base part 100; a variable mechanism part 300 for varying the protrusion height of the movable blade part 200 according to the rotation direction of the pulsator 26; a drive motor; and a control unit. The variable mechanism part 300 includes: a rotary part rotatable with respect to the base part 100; and a movement cam for moving the movable blade part 200 to the protrusion position according to the rotation of the rotary part. The base part 100 includes a first stopper rib to which the rotary part comes into contact when the movable blade part 200 moves to the protrusion position. In the control unit, with respect to the drive motor, the start-up section up to the target rotational frequency includes a first section and a second section following the first section.
