Summary:To solve the problem that it takes too much time to start printing when performing new printing in a printing device configured so that a carriage moves to an ink ribbon replacement position, after performing printing.SOLUTION: The printing device comprises: a printing head for performing printing on a printing medium on the basis of a printing job; a carriage mounted with the printing head, which can be mounted with an ink ribbon; a detection part that detects a use state of the ink ribbon; and a control part. The control part determines whether or not the ink ribbon needs to be replaced, on the basis of the detected use state, in a stand-by mode, a mode in which a printing job is waited, and when determining that the ink ribbon needs to be replaced, executes first movement control by which the carriage is moved to a replacement position at which the ink ribbon can be replaced, and when determining that the ink ribbon needs not to be replaced, executes second movement control by which the carriage is moved to a predetermined preliminary printing position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】印刷後に、キャリッジが、インクリボン交換位置に移動するように設定されている印刷装置において、新たな印刷を行うときに、印刷開始までに時間が掛かってしまうという課題があった。【解決手段】印刷ジョブに応じて、印刷媒体に印刷する印刷ヘッドと、印刷ヘッドを搭載し、インクリボンが搭載可能なキャリッジと、インクリボンの使用状態を検出する検出部と、制御部と、を備え、制御部は、印刷ジョブを待つモードである待機モードになるときに、検出された使用状態に基づいて、インクリボンの交換が必要か否かを判定し、インクリボンの交換が必要であると判定したときに、インクリボンの交換が可能な位置である交換位置に、キャリッジを移動する制御である第1移動制御を実行し、インクリボンの交換が必要でないと判定したときに、所定の印刷予備位置に、キャリッジを移動する制御である第2移動制御を実行する。【選択図】図4
