To provide an elevator monitoring system and an elevator monitoring method for remotely recognizing a hooked state when a long article in an elevator is hooked with a device or a component in a hoistway.SOLUTION: This elevator monitoring system according to the embodiment comprises: a plurality of elevators; and a central control device that is connected to the elevators. Each elevator has a photographing device installed outside a car or on a balance weight so as to photograph an adjacent elevator.
