Summary:To provide a broadcast receiver and a method for controlling the broadcast receiver, capable of setting a frequency for detecting a contact of a touch panel so as not to interfere with a reception frequency received by a receiver, even if a deviation in frequency occurs.SOLUTION: A car navigation system 1 includes: a tuner 42 to receive broadcast; a touch panel 60; a touch panel controller 63 to detect a contact with the touch panel 60 at a set drive frequency; a control unit 11 to control a drive frequency of the touch panel controller 63; and a temperature sensor 64 to detect temperature.
