Summary:To obtain an image forming apparatus that can obtain a desired fixing strength.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a fixing device that has a heat source and fixes an unfixed image on a recording material onto the recording material by using heat generated by the heat source; and a control unit that controls the operation of the fixing device. The control unit corrects the basis weight of the recording material by using the thermal conductivity of the recording material and the thickness of the recording material. The control unit determines a fixing condition in the fixing device on the basis of the basis weight after the correction.
