Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a system and method for tablet recognition, identification or classification capable of recognizing, identifying or classifying each tablet at high identification rate sufficient for practical use in dispensing pharmacies and medical institutions, on the basis of information acquired from each tablet.CONSTITUTION: A tablet identification system and method includes: extracting from an image of a tablet (including an encapsulated formulation), an image or pixels of an edge of an engraved mark displayed on the tablet; acquiring from the image or pixels of the edge of the engraved mark, information relating to gradients of the edge pixels of the engraved mark and/or information relating to positions of the edge pixels of the engraved mark; and comparing and collating feature information including them, relating to the tablet to be identified with feature information relating to a plurality of tablets prerecorded in a database so as to recognize, identify or classify the tablet to be recognized or identified.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3B 【目的】個々の錠剤から得られる情報に基づいて、調剤薬局や医療機関での実用化に耐え得る程度の高い識別率をもって、個々の錠剤を認識、識別又は分類できる錠剤の認識、識別又は分類システム及び方法を提供する。【構成】錠剤（カプセル剤を含む）の画像から当該錠剤に表示された刻印のエッジの画像又は画素を抽出し、この刻印のエッジの画像又は画素から、当該刻印のエッジ画素の勾配に関する情報及び／又は当該刻印のエッジ画素の位置に関する情報を取得し、これらを含む識別対象とされた錠剤に関する特徴情報と、予めデータベースに記録された複数の錠剤に関する特徴情報とを比較・照合することにより、前記認識又は識別の対象とされた錠剤を認識、識別又は分類するようにした錠剤識別システム及び方法である。【選択図】 図３Ｂ
