Summary:To provide an observation device with which it is possible to respond to a wide variety of culture vessels, and to stably observe cells in a culture liquid irrespective of the culture vessel used.SOLUTION: Provided is an observation device 1 comprising: an illumination unit for generating illumination light that irradiates cells S floating in a culture liquid W in a culture vessel 13; an image-forming optical system for forming the image of observation light from the cells S irradiated with illumination light by the illumination unit; an imaging unit for receiving observation light formed into an image by the image-forming optical system; and a housing 9 for accommodating the illumination unit, the image-forming optical system and the imaging unit.
