To provide an elevator capable of improving the convenience of users.SOLUTION: The elevator includes a plurality of brake units each having a brake for stopping a car and a detection device for detecting a state of the brake, a monitoring device for monitoring the failure of the brake based on information from the detection device, and a control device for controlling the operation of a car.
