To provide an article transport management method and a system which can confirm locations, safety and maintainability of articles not only in the usual time of the articles during transportation, but also in the event of abnormality, and can speedily deal with the event of the abnormality.SOLUTION: An article transport management system includes: (a) a step which houses an article having article information readable by reading means, to a returnable box which has the reading means for reading the article information from the article in the returnable box, storage means which stores the read article information, an environment sensor which detects at least one of shock, temperature or humidity of the returnable box to output environment information, and transmission means which transmits the stored article information and the environment information outputted by the environment sensor to an article management device of a cargo deliverer and/or a cargo receiver; (b) the step which reads and stores the article information from the article in the returnable box; (c) the step which transmits the read article information and the environment information outputted by the environment sensor to the article management device by the transmission means; and (d) and the step which determines whether or not abnormality occurs in the article in the returnable box based on the received article information and environment information, in the article management device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 【課題】輸送中の物品の平常時はもちろん、異常発生時も物品の所在位置、安全性、保全性の確認ができ、異常発生時には迅速な対応ができる物品輸送管理方法およびシステムを提供する。【解決手段】物品輸送管理方法は、（ａ）通箱内の物品から物品情報を読み取る読取手段と、読み取った物品情報を記憶する記憶手段と、通箱の衝撃、温度または湿度の少なくとも一つを検知して環境情報を出力する環境センサと、記憶されている物品情報および環境センサが出力する環境情報を出荷人および／または荷受人の物品管理装置に送信する送信手段とを有する通箱に、物品情報を読取手段により読み取り可能に有する物品を収容する工程、（ｂ）通箱内の物品から物品情報を読み取って記憶する工程、（ｃ）読み取った物品情報および環境センサが出力した環境情報を送信手段により物品管理装置に送信する工程、（ｄ）物品管理装置において、受信した物品情報および環境情報に基づいて通箱内の物品に異常が発生したか否かを判定する工程を含む。【選択図】図７
