Summary:To provide an internal combustion engine for an automobile superior in an EGR valve protection function and a condensate removing function.SOLUTION: An EGR cooler 40 is fixed to a cylinder head 2 through a joint pipe 41, and an EGR valve 43 is connected to an upper end of the EGR valve 43. An EGR passage downstream-side second part 45 is connected to the EGR valve 43. As the EGR valve 43 is disposed at a highest position of the EGR passage, condensate flows downward and does not accumulate on the way at both of an upstream side and a downstream side of the EGR valve 43. An intake unit 22 is disposed at an upper part of the cylinder head 2 in a state of not interfering with the EGR valve 43. The EGR valve 43 is overlapped to the intake unit 22 in a height direction, but not projected above the intake unit 22. Accordingly, impact shock of a hood 82 does not act on the EGR valve 43 even when the hood 82 gets detented downward in an accident.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】EGRバルブの保護機能と凝縮水の排除機能とに優れた自動車用内燃機関を提供する。【解決手段】EGRクーラ40は、継手パイプ41を介してシリンダヘッド2に固定されており、EGRバルブ43の上端にEGRバルブ43が接続されている。EGRバルブ43にはEGR通路下流側第2部分45が接続されている。EGRバルブ43はEGR通路のうち最も高い位置にあるため、EGRバルブ43の上流側でも下流側でも、凝縮水は下方に流下して途中に溜まることはない。シリンダヘッド2の上方には、EGRバルブ43とは緩衝しない状態で吸気ユニット22が配置されている。EGRバルブ43は吸気ユニット22と高さ方向に重なっているが、吸気ユニット22の上には突出していない。従って、事故時にフード82が下向きに凹んでも、フード82の衝撃がEGRバルブ43に作用することはない。【選択図】図4
