Summary: | To suppress the electrolysis of water when charging a sodium ion secondary battery containing an aqueous electrolyte solution.SOLUTION: A sodium ion secondary battery comprises: a positive electrode; a negative electrode; an aqueous electrolyte interposed between the positive and negative electrodes and containing sodium ions; and an ionic liquid interposed between the aqueous electrolyte solution and the negative electrode. The negative electrode contains a negative electrode active material which develops a capacity as a result of a reaction in which a sodium ion participates. The ion liquid contains an organic cation having hydrophobicity. The sodium ion secondary battery further comprises a solid electrolyte layer having sodium ion conductivity between the negative electrode active material and the ion liquid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
