Summary:To provide a method for producing a polyhydric hydroxy resin having a small content of hydroquinone which can suppress clogging of piping in removing hydroquinone by distillation.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a polyhydric hydroxy resin in which a high boiling point solvent having a boiling point of 180°C is made to coexist in a first polyhydric hydroxy resin containing a resin component represented by the following formula (1) and hydroquinone at a ratio of 5 to 50 mass% relative to the first polyhydric hydroxy resin, followed by performing steam distillation at 200 to 260°C to obtain a second polyhydric hydroxy resin reduced in a content of hydroquinone.
