Summary:To provide a bottom sand that can promote growth of aquatic plants, and can stably maintain the pH of water in a water tank for aquatic life in a numerical range being suitable for the growth of the aquatic plants.SOLUTION: Bottom sand comprises granules comprising a composition containing soil and humus acid ammonium as constituent materials. Preferably, the composition may contain a humus acid ammonium at a ratio of 0.001-20 mass%. Preferably, the grain size of the granule may be 1-5 mm. The composition can further contain a pelletizing agent as a constituent material. A method for manufacturing the bottom sand comprises a composition preparation step of preparing the composition by mixing the respective constituent materials, and a granulation step of granulating the composition to thereby obtain the granules.
