Summary:To provide an electronic device which allows a user to quickly implement recovery procedure when a printer does not start normally due to failure of firmware update, a firmware update program, and a firmware update method.SOLUTION: A guidance image generation program is stored as a part of firmware. When the guidance image generation program is executed, an image indicating recovery procedure for recovering firmware to a flash memory is generated (S34, S36). When firmware update fails where new firmware is downloaded from a server to a printer to update firmware stored in the flash memory to the new firmware (S39: NO), the guidance image indicating recovery procedure is displayed on a display unit (S40).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 【課題】ファームウェアアップデートの失敗が原因でプリンタが正常に起動しない場合に、ユーザがリカバリ手順に速やかに到達できる、電子機器、ファームウェア更新プログラムおよびファームウェア更新方法を提供する。【解決手段】案内画像生成プログラムがファームウェアの一部として記憶されている。案内画像生成プログラムが実行されることにより、ファームウェアをフラッシュメモリにリカバリするためのリカバリ手順を示す画像が生成される（Ｓ３４，Ｓ３６）。そして、サーバからプリンタに新ファームウェアがダウンロードされて、フラッシュメモリに記憶されているファームウェアが新ファームウェアに更新される、いわゆるファームウェアアップデートが失敗に終わった場合には（Ｓ３９：ＮＯ）、リカバリ手順を示す案内画像が表示部に表示される（Ｓ４０）。【選択図】図７
