To provide a holding seal material improved in winding properties to an exhaust gas treatment body.SOLUTION: A holding seal material 10 includes a first mat 11 of a substantially rectangular shape in plan view having prescribed length in a longitudinal direction X and prescribed width and thickness in a width direction Y, and a second mat 12 placed and arranged on an inner side of the first mat 1. A protrusion 14a is formed on one end 19a of the second mat, and a recession 14b is formed on the other end 19b, and the protrusion and the recession are formed to be fitted with each other when the holding seal material is wound around an exhaust gas treatment body.
