To provide arrangements of patch elements on a wrapper that can provide such improved SE (Self Extinguishment) performance while maintaining the desired or requisite IP (Ignition Propensity) performance.SOLUTION: A wrapper for a smoking article has a base web 140 and a plurality of elements 126 each having at least a pair of patch areas. In the patch areas, diffusivity is in the range of 0 to about 0.2 cm/sec. Patches 126 of adjacent elements are circumferentially offset from one another along an axis 134 of the smoking article. An add-on material can be applied by gravure printing in a single pass in a chevron pattern such that an apex of the element is co-linear with substantially symmetrically spaced two points on an outer edge of an adjacent element.
