Summary:To provide an internal combustion engine which performs the early warmup of a catalyst by using a heat insulation film having a swing characteristic, and can suppress the deterioration of the catalyst.SOLUTION: In a specified cylinder, heat insulation films are formed at a top face of a piston, a surface of an umbrella part of an exhaust valve and a wall face of an exhaust port. On the other hand, in the other cylinders other than the specified cylinder, the insulation film is formed at only the top face of the piston. The heat insulation films are formed at an inner wall of an exhaust manifold, an inner wall of an exhaust pipe and an inner wall of a housing. Here, the insulation film is not formed at an inner wall of a branch pipe connected to an exhaust port of the other cylinder out of the exhaust manifold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6 【課題】スイング特性を有する遮熱膜を用いて触媒の早期暖機を実現すると共に、当該触媒の劣化を抑えることのできる内燃機関を提供する。【解決手段】特定気筒では、ピストンの頂面、排気バルブの傘部の表面、および、排気ポートの壁面に遮熱膜が形成されている。一方、特定気筒以外の他の気筒では、ピストンの頂面にのみ遮熱膜が形成されている。遮熱膜は、排気マニホールドの内壁、排気管の内壁、および、ハウジングの内壁に形成されている。但し、排気マニホールドのうち、他の気筒の排気ポートに接続される分岐管の内壁には、遮熱膜が形成されていない。【選択図】図6
