Summary: | To provide methods for preventing and/or reducing the severity of drug induced ototoxicity.SOLUTION: There is provided a pharmaceutical composition used for preventing ototoxicity induced by a drug when administered prior to the onset of therapy using the drug. The pharmaceutical composition contains 1-100 μm of an anti-apoptotic agent. The pharmaceutical composition provides sustained release of the anti-apoptotic agent into the ear for at least 5 days after the administration. The anti-apoptotic agent increases the survival of inner hair cells and the spiral ganglion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
