Summary:To provide a medium discharge device capable of preventing a downstream end of a following medium in a conveying direction from being bent due to a contact with an upper surface of a preceding medium on a discharge tray.SOLUTION: A medium discharge device 300 comprises: a discharge roller 329 for discharging a medium; a discharge tray 331 arranged below the discharge roller 329 in the vertical direction and having a mounting surface 331a on which the medium discharged by the discharge roller 329 is placed; and a sheet member 340 formed so as to move forward and backward between a retracted position on an upstream side and an advanced position on a downstream side in an interspace between the discharge roller 329 and the mounting surface 331a. A friction coefficient of the top surface of the sheet member 340 is designed to be equal to or lower than a friction coefficient of the mounting surface 331a.
