Summary:To provide a combustion chamber structure for an engine, capable of securing high ignitability of air-fuel mixture by ensuring air scavenging near a combustion chamber ceiling surface.SOLUTION: The crown surface of a piston 5 is provided with a cavity 51 recessed in a cylinder axial direction. The cavity 51 is provided in a region including a lower area of an ignition part 170 of a spark plug 17 in plan view from the cylinder axial direction. On the crown surface of the piston 5 at its outer periphery portion on a +Y side with respect to the cavity 51, an intake side slope part 55 and an intake side plane part 53 are provided continuously with each other. The intake side plane part 53 is oppositely arranged with a gap from a plane part 43a of an intake side top surface part 43 opposed to a +Z side thereof. The intake side plane part 53 and the plane part 43a constitute a squish flow generation part. The intake side slope part 55 is provided so as to be oriented to the ignition part 170 of the spark plug 17 when the piston is at a compression top dead center.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8 【課題】燃焼室天井面付近の掃気が確実になされ、混合気の高い着火性を確保することができるエンジンの燃焼室構造を提供する。【解決手段】ピストン5の冠面は、気筒軸方向に凹設されてなるキャビティ51を有する。キャビティ51は、気筒軸方向からの平面視で点火プラグ17の着火部170の下方を含む領域に設けられている。ピストン5の冠面において、キャビティ51に対して+Y側の外周部分には、吸気側斜面部55と吸気側平面部53とが互いに連続して設けられている。吸気側平面部53は、その+Z側に対向する吸気側天面部43の平面部43aに対して隙間を空けて対向配置されている。吸気側平面部53と平面部43aとは、スキッシュ流生成部を構成する。吸気側斜面部55は、ピストンが圧縮上死点にあるときに点火プラグ17の着火部170を指向するように設けられている。【選択図】図8
