Summary:To provide an image forming apparatus preventing vibration of charging wires and an image forming method, in the image forming apparatus that includes charging devices using a corona charging system and the image forming method.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: charging devices 42 each including a charging wire 103 that charges a charging target member by corona discharge and a tension varying unit 106 that varies the tension of the charging wire; and a control unit that controls the tension varying units.
