Summary:To achieve a zoom lens small in size and having high optical performance in the whole zoom range, and an imaging apparatus.SOLUTION: The zoom lens of the present invention has, successively arranged from an object side to an image side, a first lens group having a negative refractive power, a second lens group having a positive refractive power, a third lens group having a negative refractive power, and a fourth lens group having a negative refractive power, in which upon zooming, an interval between adjoining lens groups varies.
