Summary:To provide a developing device that reduces the possibility of deterioration associated with wear, can prevent the likelihood of the occurrence of a malfunction along with the running time, and can accurately detect the density of a developer, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A developing device comprises: developer storage means that stores a developer; stirring means that is built in and pivotally supported by the developer storage means; and a developer density detection sensor (60) that detects the density of the developer stirred by the stirring means with a developer density detection unit (56) of the developer storage means. The developing device uses the developer storage means as a casing (50) and the stirring means as a screw (57) for conveying developer, forms a control projection part (61) in non-contact with and in proximity to the screw (57) and having a substantially reverse U-shaped cross section in a projecting manner on the periphery of the developer density detection unit (56) of the casing (50), arranges the developer density detection sensor (60) inside the control projection part (61), and controls the density of the developer with the control projection part (61).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 【課題】摩擦に伴う劣化のおそれを低減し、ランニング時間と共に不具合が発生しやすくなるのを防ぐことができ、現像剤の密度を高精度に検知できる現像装置及び画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】現像剤を収容する現像剤収容手段と、この現像剤収容手段に内蔵軸支されて現像剤を回転して攪拌する攪拌手段と、この攪拌手段に攪拌される現像剤の密度を現像剤収容手段の現像剤濃度検知部(56)で検知する現像剤濃度検知センサ(60)とを備え、現像剤収容手段をケーシング(50)とするとともに、攪拌手段を現像剤搬送用のスクリュ(57)とし、ケーシング(50)の現像剤濃度検知部(56)周辺に、スクリュ(57)に非接触で近接する制御突起部(61)を断面略逆U字形に突出形成し、この制御突起部(61)内に、現像剤濃度検知センサ(60)を配置し、制御突起部(61)により、現像剤の密度を制御する。【選択図】図3
