Summary:To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents the occurrence of permanent deformation in a heating rotating body.SOLUTION: A fixing device heats an unfixed image carried on a recording material while sandwiching and conveying the image with the rotation of a fixing film and a pressure roller to fix the image to the recording material during an image forming operation. A CPU (control means) causes the fixing device to perform a heating operation during stoppage with the fixing film and pressure roller stopped at a timing different from that during the image forming operation, and causes the fixing device to rotate the fixing film and pressure roller and simultaneously perform a heating operation before causing the fixing device to perform the heating operation during stoppage.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10 【課題】加熱回転体に永久変形が生じることを防止する画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】定着装置は、画像形成動作時に記録材が担持する未定着画像を定着フィルムと加圧ローラとの回転により挟持搬送しながら加熱し定着させる。ＣＰＵ（制御手段）は、画像形成動作時とは異なるタイミングで、定着フィルムと加圧ローラとを停止させた状態で定着装置に停止時加熱動作を行わせると共に、その停止時加熱動作を行わせる前に定着装置に定着フィルムと加圧ローラとを回転させながら加熱動作を行わせる。【選択図】図１０
