Summary:To appropriately ensure the safety in a switching power supply circuit and suppress the power loss, according to the state of a relay.SOLUTION: A printer comprises a printing mechanism unit, a switching power supply circuit provided with a conversion circuit for converting AC power to DC power from a primary side circuit to a secondary side circuit, a control IC and a printing control circuit, and an SOC. The switching power supply circuit includes a resistor provided at a stage prior to a rectification circuit in the primary side circuit, a relay connected in parallel with the resistor, a bidirectional photodiode connected in parallel with the relay, and a phototransistor for receiving light of the photodiode. The photodiode emits light when prescribed voltage corresponding to the state of the relay is generated at both ends of the resistor. When the output from the photodiode having received the light of the phototransistor is acquired, the SOC puts a limitation on power supply to the secondary side circuit by using the control IC or the printing control circuit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】リレーの状態に応じて、スイッチング電源回路における安全性の確保と電力損失の抑制とを適切に行えるようにする。
