Summary:To provide an image processing technology that performs auto color selection (ACS) with high accuracy.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for determining whether a read document is a color document or a monochrome document includes: pixel type determination means for determining whether a target pixel in a read image generated by scanning a document with a sensor is a color pixel or a monochrome pixel based on a luminance signal value of the target pixel; and document type determination means for determining whether the document is a color document or a monochrome document based on at least one of the number of determined color pixels and the number of determined monochrome pixels.
