To provide an internal combustion engine which perform intake of necessary amount to a combustion chamber, and performs fine mixture in the combustion chamber.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine is equipped with an intake cam shaft 7 synchronously rotates with a crank shaft 1, a valve opening/closing timing control mechanism VT which sets a timing of opening/closing actuation of an intake valve Va accompanied with rotations of the intake cam shaft 7, and a lift amount setting mechanism L which sets the lift amount of the intake valve Va accompanied with rotations of the intake cam shaft 7. Among cam portions 7a of the intake cam shaft 7, an opening actuation area 7as opening and actuating the intake valve Va is set in an arc-shape around a rotary axis X.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】燃焼室に必要量の吸気を行うと共に、燃焼室において良好な混合を行う内燃機関を構成する。【解決手段】クランクシャフト１と同期回転する吸気カムシャフト７と、吸気カムシャフト７の回転に伴う吸気バルブＶａの開閉作動のタイミングを設定する弁開閉時期制御機構ＶＴと、吸気カムシャフト７の回転に伴う吸気バルブＶａのリフト量を設定するリフト量設定機構Ｌと、を備え、吸気カムシャフト７のカム部７ａのうち、吸気バルブＶａを開放作動させる開放作動領域７ａｓを、回転軸芯Ｘを中心とする円弧状に設定した。【選択図】図１
