Summary:To improve endurance of ground electrode.SOLUTION: A spark plug includes a main body metal fitting having a through hole extending in the direction of axis line, an insulator fixed to the inner peripheral side of the main body metal fitting, a center electrode including a portion placed at the tip of the insulator and forming a first discharge surface, and a rod-like ground electrode having a proximal end joined to the annular apical surface of the main body metal fitting, and forming a discharge gap between the first discharge surface of the center electrode at the tip. The contour of the ground electrode near the proximal end perpendicular to the axis line includes a first side representative of the outer surface on the inner peripheral side, a second side for connection with one end of the first side, and a third side for connection with the other end of the first side. The length of the second side is different from the length of the third side. The first side is inclining obliquely to a straight line connecting the median point of the first side and the axis line. The area of the profile is 1.2 mmor more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】接地電極の耐久性を向上する。【解決手段】点火プラグは、軸線の方向に延びる貫通孔を有する主体金具と、主体金具の内周側に固定された絶縁体と、絶縁体の先端部に配置される部分を含むとともに第1放電面を形成する中心電極と、基端が主体金具の環状の先端面に接合されるとともに、先端部において中心電極の第1放電面との間で放電ギャップを形成する第2放電面を形成する棒状の接地電極と、を備える。接地電極の基端近傍の断面であって、軸線に垂直な断面の輪郭は、内周側の外面を表す第1辺と、第1辺の一端に接続される第2辺と、第1辺の他端に接続される第3辺と、を含む。第2辺の長さは、第3辺の長さとは異なっている。第1辺は、第1辺の中点と軸線とを結ぶ直線に対して斜めに傾斜している。断面の面積は、1.2mm2以上である。【選択図】 図1
