Summary:To provide a method and device that can quickly and highly accurately discriminate a road surface state with an amount of computation largely reduced.SOLUTION: A road surface state discrimination method is configured to:, upon discriminating a road surface state with which a tire contacts from a time change waveform of oscillation of the running tire detected by oscillation detection means, select an arbitrary peculiar oscillation mode from the plurality of peculiar oscillation modes after acquiring a plurality of peculiar oscillation modes by use of an algorithm of empirical mode decomposition from data on the time change waveform of the oscillation of the tire; calculate an amount of statistics from a distribution of characteristic data calculated by conducting a Hilbert transform to the selected peculiar oscillation mode; determine the calculated amount thereof as an amount of characteristic; and discriminate the road surface state from the amount of characteristic and an amount of characteristic preliminarily obtained for each road surface.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8 【課題】演算量を大幅に削減して、路面状態を速やかにかつ精度よく判別できる方法とその装置を提供することを目的とする。【解決手段】振動検出手段により検出した走行中のタイヤの振動の時間変化波形からタイヤの接している路面の状態を判別する際に、タイヤの振動の時間変化波形のデータから、経験的モード分解のアルゴリズムを用いて複数の固有振動モードを取得した後、これら複数の固有振動モードから任意の固有振動モードを選択して、この選択された固有振動モードにヒルベルト変換を行って算出した特徴データの分布から統計量を算出してこれを特徴量とし、この特徴量と予め路面状態ごとに求めておいた特徴量とから、路面状態を判別するようにした。【選択図】図8
