Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the focusing accuracy and the speed of adjusting the focus by a system.SOLUTION: A focus system and method include an imaging system having: a laser diode light source 150; an objective lens which is located so as to direct the focus tracking beam from the light source 150 to the position of a sample container 110, and receive the focus tracking beam reflected from the sample; and an imaging sensor 141 which can have a plurality of pixel positions receiving the focus tracking beam reflected from the position of the sample container 110. The reflected focus tracking beam can generate a spot in the imaging sensor 141. In some embodiments, the imaging system may have the laser diode light source 150 which can operate at the output level more than the operation output level of the naturally radiated amplified light ("ASE") mode and less than the output level of the single operation mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
