Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a component with little heat treatment strain and excellent abrasion resistance and fatigue characteristics; and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: The component has a constituent composition comprising prescribed constituents with a Z value of 30 or more defined by formula (1), namely, Z=186-449C+38Si-8Mn-4Ni+7Cu-29Cr+15Mo+165V+142Ti-252Nb+368Al+4210B. The constitution to the depth of 100 μm from a surface of the component contains retained austenite of a volume fraction of 30% or less with the balance consisting of one or both of martensite and bainite.
