PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater capable of securely preventing freezing of piping and the like in the water heater that can be controlled through communication with an external device.SOLUTION: A storage water heater 35 includes: an HP unit 7 for heating water; a control section 36 for controlling boiling-up operation that is operation for heating water by using the HP unit 7; and a communication adapter 46 capable of receiving instruction for prohibiting the boiling-up operation from a server 47 through communication with the server 47 that is an external device. As the boiling-up operation, the control section 36 can execute automatic boiling-up operation for automatic start in accordance with hot water storage amount or time and freezing prevention boiling-up operation for preventing freezing. When the boiling-up operation is prohibited by the instruction from the server 47, the control section 36 prohibits the automatic boiling-up operation and does not prohibit the freezing prevention boiling-up operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】外部機器との通信によって制御可能な給湯装置において、配管等の凍結を確実に防止することができる給湯装置を提供する。【解決手段】貯湯式給湯装置３５は、水を加熱するＨＰユニット７と、ＨＰユニット７により水を加熱する運転である沸上運転を制御する制御部３６と、外部機器であるサーバ４７との通信により、沸上運転を禁止する指示をサーバ４７から受信可能な通信アダプタ４６とを備える。制御部３６は、沸上運転として、貯湯量または時刻に応じて自動で開始する自動沸上運転と、凍結を予防するための凍結予防沸上運転とを実行可能である。制御部３６は、サーバ４７からの指示により沸上運転が禁止されているときに、自動沸上運転を禁止し、凍結予防沸上運転を禁止しない。【選択図】図１
