Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and apparatus for producing polyarylene sulfide (hereinafter referred to as PAS) in which the process cost in the production of PAS is furthermore reduced by simply and easily reusing unreacted sulfur source.SOLUTION: A process for producing PAS according to the present invention includes a polymerization step for producing PAS, an extraction step for bringing an extraction solvent into contact with the solid produced in the polymerization step and extracting at least a part of the sulfur source from the solid, a recovery step for separating and recovering the solid underwent the extraction step and the extract produced in the extraction step, and a recycling step of supplying at least a part of the extract as at least a part of the PAS-forming raw material in the polymerization step, and in which the extraction solvent is (1) a protic organic solvent, or (2) a mixed solvent containing water and an organic solvent, and the amount of the sulfur source in the solid recovered in the recovery step is 2 pts.mass or less per 100 pts.mass of the alkali metal halide.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 【課題】簡便かつ容易に未反応の硫黄源を再利用することで、ポリアリーレンスルフィド(以下、PAS)製造におけるプロセスコストをより一層削減したPASの製造方法及びPASの製造装置を提供する。【解決手段】本発明に係るPASの製造方法は、PASを生成させる重合工程と、重合工程で生成した固形物に抽出溶媒を接触させ、該固形物から硫黄源の少なくとも一部を抽出する抽出工程と、抽出工程を経た該固形物と抽出工程で生成した抽出液とを分離回収する回収工程と、該抽出液の少なくとも一部を、該重合工程でのPAS生成原料の少なくとも一部として供給するリサイクル工程と、を含み、該抽出溶媒は、(1)プロトン性有機溶媒、又は、(2)水と有機溶媒とを含有する混合溶媒、であり、該回収工程で回収される該固形物中の該硫黄源の量は、該アルカリ金属ハロゲン化物100質量部に対し2質量部以下である。【選択図】図3
