PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To self-diagnose the presence/absence of a failure in an optical system in an object detection device comprising a rotating scanning part, and suppress an increase in size of the device.SOLUTION: An object detection device 100 comprises: an LD module 2 that includes an LD (laser diode); a PD module 7 that includes a PD (photo diode); a rotating scanning part 4 that rotates a mirror 4a to reflect light from the LD with the mirror 4a and scan a predetermined range, and reflects light reflected on a physical object within the predetermined range with the mirror 4a to be guided to the PD; an object detection part that detects the presence/absence of the physical object on the basis of a light receiving signal output from the PD module 7; a light guide 15 that guides light from the LD to the PD; and a failure detection part that detects the presence/absence of a failure on the basis of a light emission state of the LD and a light receiving state of the PD that receives the light guided by the light guide 15. The light guide 15 receives light emitted from the LD and reflected on the mirror 4a of the rotating scanning part 4, and reflects the light with the mirror 4a of the rotating scanning part 4 to be guided to the PD.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】回転走査部を備えた物体検出装置において、光学系の故障の有無を自己診断し、かつ装置の大型化を抑制する。【解決手段】物体検出装置１００は、ＬＤ（レーザダイオード）を含んだＬＤモジュール２と、ＰＤ（フォトダイオード）を含んだＰＤモジュール７と、鏡４ａを回転させることにより、ＬＤからの光を鏡４ａで反射して所定範囲に走査し、該所定範囲にある対象物で反射した光を鏡４ａで反射してＰＤへ導く回転走査部４と、ＰＤモジュール７から出力される受光信号に基づいて、対象物の有無を検出する物体検出部と、ＬＤからの光をＰＤに導くライトガイド１５と、ＬＤの発光状態とライトガイド１５により導かれた光のＰＤによる受光状態とに基づいて、故障の有無を検出する故障検出部とを備える。ライトガイド１５は、ＬＤからの光が回転走査部４の鏡４ａで反射した光を受光し、該光を回転走査部４の鏡４ａで反射させてＰＤに導く。【選択図】図４
