Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent a productivity from being reduced while carrying out accurately deviation correction.SOLUTION: When an image is printed on a surface side of a sheet P in an image forming apparatus, the sheet P passes through a surface carrying path, and a variation in an end position of the sheet P is increased in a width, so that an oscillation time of a resist roller is increased as well in accordance therewith. Accordingly, an interval W1 having a margin is set between the sheets considering time passing until the resist roller recovers to a home position. When an image is printed on a back surface side of the sheet P, the sheet P passes through a back surface carrying path, and a variation in the end position of the sheet P is decreased in a width, so that an oscillation time of the resist roller is shortened as well in accordance therewith. In this case, a recovery time of the resist roller to the home position is shortened as well, and therefore an interval between the sheets P carried next to printing on the back surface is set to an interval W2 narrower than the interval W1. This makes it possible to decrease an interval between the sheets by an interval W3 than intervals in conventional technologies in a printing treatment step of printing on a surface side of the fifth sheet P.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】寄り補正を高精度に行いつつ、生産性の低下を防止する。【解決手段】画像形成装置では、用紙Pの表面側に画像を印刷する場合、用紙Pが表面用搬送経路を通過し、用紙Pの端部位置のばらつきの幅も大きくなるので、これに応じてレジストローラーの揺動時間も増加する。そのため、レジストローラーのホームポジションへの復帰までの時間を考慮し、紙間は余裕を持たせた間隔W1に設定する。用紙Pの裏面側に画像を印刷する場合、用紙Pが裏面用搬送経路を通過し、用紙Pの端部位置のばらつき幅が小さくなるので、これに応じてレジストローラーの揺動時間も短くなる。この場合、レジストローラーのホームポジションへの復帰時間も速くなるので、裏面印刷時の次に搬送される用紙Pの紙間を間隔W1よりも狭い間隔W2に設定する。これにより、5枚目の用紙Pの表面側までの印刷処理工程においては、従来技術よりも間隔W3だけ紙間を短縮できる。【選択図】図4
