Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for preventing damage of a tear string and a method for tearing a cable sheath.SOLUTION: There is provided a tool 20 used for a tear string 12 for tearing a cable sheath 11 covering a cable core 10 in which coated optical fibers are housed. The tool includes: a hole part 30 which is formed inside a tool body 21 and into which the tear string drawn from an outer periphery of the cable core is inserted; and an edge part 31 which is formed outside the tool body and tears the cable sheath.
