PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a printing job to be executed with appropriate setting information in a printer capable of updating the setting information used for execution of the printing job and a printing method.SOLUTION: A printer comprises: a printing execution section printing an image onto a printing medium by executing a printing job; a setting information storage section storing setting information according to a medium kind of the printing medium; a setting control section which sets the setting information according to the medium kind of the printing medium being an execution object of the printing job to the printing execution section; and an update control section capable of updating the setting information stored in the setting information storage section in response to an update request of the setting information. The printing execution section executes the printing job on the basis of the setting information set by the setting control section.
