PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of more precisely distinguishing a document area from a document outside area in a scan image of the document placed on a document table.SOLUTION: An image formation apparatus divides a scan image 201 into a plurality of divided areas 300 (301-305) with division in a prescribed direction when gradation equal to or greater than a prescribed degree exists in the prescribed direction (for example, main-scanning direction) in the scan image 200 (201) of a document placed on a document table. The image formation apparatus executes calculation processing of distinguishing thresholds TH (TH1-TH5) for distinguishing a document area from a document outside area for each of the plurality of divided areas 301-305.
