Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of more precisely distinguishing a document area from a document outside area in a scan image of the document placed on a document table.SOLUTION: An image formation apparatus divides a scan image 201 into a plurality of divided areas 300 (301-305) with division in a prescribed direction when gradation equal to or greater than a prescribed degree exists in the prescribed direction (for example, main-scanning direction) in the scan image 200 (201) of a document placed on a document table. The image formation apparatus executes calculation processing of distinguishing thresholds TH (TH1-TH5) for distinguishing a document area from a document outside area for each of the plurality of divided areas 301-305. Then, a MFP 10 distinguishes the document area from the document outside area on the basis of the distinguishing thresholds TH calculated for the at least one divided area 300 in the at least one divided area 300 out of the plurality of divided areas 301-305.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5 【課題】原稿台に載置された原稿に関するスキャン画像において原稿領域と原稿外領域とをより正確に区別することが可能な技術を提供する。【解決手段】画像形成装置は、原稿台に載置された原稿に関するスキャン画像200(201)において、所定程度以上のグラデーションが所定方向(たとえば主走査方向)に存在する場合、当該スキャン画像201を当該所定方向に区分して複数の分割領域300(301〜305)に分割する。そして、画像形成装置は、当該複数の分割領域301〜305のそれぞれについて、原稿領域と原稿外領域とを区別するための区別用閾値TH(TH1〜TH5)の算出処理を実行する。その後、MFP10は、複数の分割領域301〜305のうち少なくとも1つの分割領域300において、当該少なくとも1つの分割領域300に関して算出された区別用閾値THに基づいて原稿領域と原稿外領域とを区別する。【選択図】図5
