Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeding device, which can reduce down time caused by lift-up motion at the time of starting operation for feeding a recording material from a cassette after operation for feeding the material from a manual feed tray.SOLUTION: The feeding device has: a first placement part; a second placement part: lifting means that lifts recording materials placed on the first placement part; and detecting means that varies detection results according to the fact that the recording materials lifted by the lifting means reach a feeding position, where the recording materials are lifted by the lifting means until the detection results are varied. The device further has control means that, when the recording material fed from the second placement part passes through the detecting means in a state where the recording material placed on the first placement part is left at the feeding position and therefore the detection results are varied, feeds a first recording material and a second recording material sequentially from the second placement part, and makes the lifting means to lift the recording materials in a period of time during which at least a rear end of the first recording material passes through the detecting means and then a tip of the second recording material reaches the detecting means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
