Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device that prevents the occurrence of inconvenience that the amount of toner interposed at a contact part between the cleaning blade and an image carrier falls short, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A cleaning device comprises: a retention part 34 that is formed to be capable of retaining a toner removed by a cleaning blade 32; a shutter 36 (supply means) that supplies the toner retained in the retention part 34 to a surface on the upstream side in the direction of travel of an intermediate transfer belt 17 (image carrier) with respect to the cleaning blade 32; and a toner detection sensor 37 (detection means) that detects the state in which a toner interposed at an edge part of the cleaning blade 32 falls short. When the state in which the toner falls short is detected by the toner detection sensor 37, the toner retained in the retention part 34 is supplied to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 17 by the shutter 36.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 【課題】クリーニングブレードと像担持体との当接部に介在するトナーの量が不足してしまう不具合が生じにくい、クリーニング装置、及び、画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】クリーニングブレード32によって除去されたトナーを貯留可能に形成された貯留部34と、貯留部34に貯留されたトナーをクリーニングブレード32に対して中間転写ベルト17(像担持体)の走行方向上流側の表面に供給するシャッタ36(供給手段)と、クリーニングブレード32のエッジ部に介在するトナーが不足した状態を検知するトナー検知センサ37(検知手段)と、が設けられている。そして、トナー検知センサ37によってトナーが不足した状態が検知されたときに、シャッタ36によって貯留部34に貯留されたトナーを中間転写ベルト17の表面に供給している。【選択図】図3
