PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical or dental treatment device connectable to a plurality of different tools and comprising a developed evaluation device which enables tools or tool groups to be distinguished.SOLUTION: A medical or dental treatment device (1) comprises: a tool retainer connectable to a tool (3); a measuring coil (5, 5A) which can be supplied with a periodic electrical energy; and an evaluation device which detects whether a tool (3) is connected to the treatment device (1) or which of a plurality of tools is connected to the treatment device (1).
