Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mutant beetle luciferase, which is not easily affected by light emission inhibition by NaCl.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided a mutant beetle luciferase comprising a variation in an amino acid sequence encoding the wild-type beetle luciferase. Here, the variation is as follows: in an amino acid sequence of wild-type North American firefly luciferase, an amino acid corresponding to valine at position 288 is isoleucine, leucine, or phenylalanine; an amino acid corresponding to leucine at position 376 is proline; an amino acid corresponding to glutamic acid at position 455 is valine, alanine, serine, leucine, isoleucine, or phenylalanine; or an amino acid corresponding to glutamic acid at position 488 is valine, alanine, serine, leucine, isoleucine, or phenylalanine.
