Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder and an image forming apparatus capable of locking a document tray at a prescribed angle and improving workability in taking out a small size document.SOLUTION: An ADF 5 includes support means 50A for supporting the attitude of a document tray 51 in a first state where a document sheet S placed on the document tray 51 can be conveyed and in a second state where the document tray 51 is lifted compared with the first state. The support means 50A includes a pair of rotating shafts 515a, 515b provided in the document tray 51, a pair of bearing parts 525a, 525b for receiving the pair of rotating shafts 515a, 515b so that the document tray 51 can rotate, and a plurality of stages of lock mechanisms 50. The plurality of stages of lock mechanisms 50 perform locking so as to prevent the document tray 51 from being lifted in the first state, and hold the document tray 51 in an inclination state in the second state where the document tray 51 is lifted to the maximum.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15 【課題】原稿トレイを所定の角度でロックでき、小サイズ原稿を取り出す際の作業性を向上させ得る自動原稿搬送装置および画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】ＡＤＦ５は、原稿トレイ５１に載置された原稿シートＳを搬送可能な第１の状態と、第１の状態よりも原稿トレイ５１が持ち上がった第２の状態とで原稿トレイ５１の姿勢を保持するよう支持する支持手段５０Ａを備える。支持手段５０Ａは、原稿トレイ５１に設けられる一対の回転軸５１５ａ，５１５ｂと、原稿トレイ５１が回動できるように一対の回転軸５１５ａ，５１５ｂを受け入れる一対の軸受部５２５ａ，５２５ｂと、複数段係止機構５０と、を備え、複数段係止機構５０は、第１の状態のときに、原稿トレイ５１が持ち上がらないようにロックし、また原稿トレイ５１が最大に持ち上がった第２の状態のときに、原稿トレイ５１が傾斜状態を保持する。【選択図】図１５
